OUR HISTORY: HOW OUR FOUNDER STARTED OUR ADVOCACY WORK
ADVOCATING FOR THE LIVES OF OTHER PATIENTS
Care Over Cuts was a Medicaid advocacy event held in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, organized by our founder - himself a young leukemia patient - to raise awareness about how proposed changes to Medicaid policies could impact patients, families, and the broader community.
The event aimed to elevate patient voices and highlight the importance of preserving access to essential healthcare services, especially for those living with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and life-threatening conditions.
In partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the event featured volunteer advocates, community members, and patient speakers who shared their experiences and emphasized the urgent need to protect programs that many rely on for survival and stability.
Care Over Cuts was created to bring people together, inform the public, and ensure that the needs of vulnerable patients remain part of the conversation - because access to care is a matter of life and dignity. Which we now plan to continue through nonpartisan advocacy work, this event set the foundation for us to pursue.
Disclaimer: This video features an event independently organized by our founder, separate from Covers to Fight Cancer, though our organization attended. No Covers to Fight Cancer funds were used. Views expressed are those of the speakers and do not reflect our organization. As a nonpartisan nonprofit, we do not endorse any political party or candidate - our only bias is toward what’s best for leukemia patients.

WHERE WE GO Now?
It started when our founder held a Medicaid advocacy event in his community. He independently organized it in just nine days to raise awareness about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and its devastating impact on patients, the broader community, and his own fight for survival.
Care Over Cuts was an event that brought together patients, caregivers, and advocates to share their stories and rally for life-saving care. In partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, volunteers and patient speakers joined forces to shed light on how this bill threatens the health and dignity of millions.
It is now our way of advocating for fellow leukemia patients by raising awareness about the challenges they face in accessing care. Through community events, storytelling, and education, we work to spotlight what is happening in the patient community and do everything we can to help improve their care and protect their rights.
